Last post for Helena High Students

NOTICE: This post and all of the older posts are from when I was teaching at Helena High School. They are not intended for my students at Hays-Lodge Pole.

The test will be 100 multiple-choice questions. Honors students will also have two essay questions (see #5 and #6 below). All of the questions on the study guide are very closely related to questions on the test.

Monday
Regular Monday schedule. We will do a Kahoot review to refresh your memory.

Zero period final from 8:20-9:40

1. It is important that you understand the Rock Cycle (several questions). To review read pages 67-69 (honors pages 52-54) and take a look at this animation.

2. This graph will be on the test - CLICK HERE . . . Make sure you understand it.

3. There will be several questions to check your understanding of Moon phases. Look at the diagrams in your text (look up "moon phases" in the index to find the page number).

4. This diagram will be on the test. The same diagram can be found on page 339 of your text (honors text page 328). You should be able to use principles of superposition and cross-cutting to determine relative ages as you did on the WS: Principles of Geology last winter.

5. Honors students will have an essay question about the contribution of Henrietta Leavitt to modern astronomy. This short video will provide a good review.

6. Honors students will also have to explain "sea-floor spreading" (including the evidence for it). Text pages 209-210 and 214-216 will help.

7. Watch this 3.5 minute video to understand the scale of the universe.

May 20-24 . . . the last full week of school.

Monday
Periods 1-4-5 will watch a video about the history of the telescope. Periods 3 and 6 (honors) will do an activity called "The Shape of Planetary Orbits". Honors students, if you were gone be sure to go to this website and spend some time trying all of the features.

Tuesday
Periods 1-4-5 will take notes as Benson explains several general astronomy topics. Periods 3 and 6 will watch a video about the history of the telescope. If you were gone, be sure to check out this interactive visual, which was created by two 14-year old boys in 2012, and watch this 3-minute video.

Wednesday
Periods 1-4-5 will start a star classification activity. Periods 3 and 6 will take notes as Benson explains several general astronomy topics.

Thursday
Periods 1-4-5 will finish the star classification activity. Periods 3 and 6 will go over Kepler's Laws and then begin the star classification activity.

Friday
Periods 1-4-5 will begin watching the movie "Contact". Periods 3 and 6 will finish the star classification activity.

We finish learning about small solar system bodies and then students will make solar system bracelets.
